< p > It is a parent's worst nightmare. A toddler climbs on a dresser to reach a toy, and the heavy TV on top wobbles and tips forward. According to the CPSC, a child dies every 3 weeks from a tipping TV. This isn't fear- mongering; it is physics.
< h2 > 1. The Problem with TV Stands
< p > Modern TVs are front - heavy. The screens are heavy glass, but the stands are often lightweight plastic "feet." It takes very little force—a bump from a vacuum, a pulled cable, or a climbing child—to shift the center of gravity past the tipping point.
< h2 > 2. Anchoring Straps vs.Wall Mounts
< p > Straps: You can buy "anti-tip straps" that screw into the VESA holes of the TV and then into the furniture or wall. These are a minimum requirement if you use a stand.
< br > Wall Mounts(Best): The safest place for a TV is 5 feet in the air, bolted to studs. It removes the temptation for a child to touch it, climb it, or smear peanut butter on it.
