Hosting the big game on your patio is the ultimate flex. But moving a standard indoor TV outside is a recipe for disaster. Here is how to build an outdoor cinema that survives Canadian weather.
1. The TV: Indoor vs. Outdoor
Standard TVs: are not sealed. Humidity, bugs, and dust will destroy them in one season. Also, they aren't bright enough to fight the sun.
Outdoor TVs (SunBrite, Samsung Terrace): are built like tanks. They are rated IP55 for water/dust resistance and pump out 2000+ nits of brightness (vs 500 for indoor TVs).
2. Location, Location, Location
Mounting under a soffit or gazebo is vital. Direct rain is one thing, but direct sun is the real killer. Even an outdoor TV can overheat if baking in direct noon sun. Always face the screen North or South implies less direct sunrise/sunset glare.
3. Weatherproof Mounts
You cannot use a regular steel mount. It will rust and seize up within months. You need a dedicated outdoor mount made of galvanized steel with stainless steel hardware and weather-resistant powder coating.
